⏱️Take a 2-Minute Break with … Deepika Chanamolu

⏱️ You might think that Deepika — who moved from India to the U.S., where she’s lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington D.C. and now Virginia (her home for the past decade)— would be glad* to never send another change-of-address card.

Not so! Deepika, a senior Business Intelligence manager in Network Engineering, is not only not averse to hitting the road again, she’s actually curious as to where her next challenge will take her. For someone as driven and intellectually inquisitive as she is – after all, her job involves finding innovative technical solutions to business challenges – this seems a fitting attitude.

* Your humble author would consider wearing a beard of bees for the remainder of her natural life a fair alternative to moving.

😮 What surprised you most when you first came to the United States?

How welcoming everyone was. I know the United States is a land of opportunities … but even more important are the people. They make all the difference.

🧘Do you have any hobbies?

I’m a certified yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. Apart from that, I love art and anything to do with painting canvas.

🧀 Best book you ever read?

“Who Moved My Cheese?” By Dr. Spencer Johnson. It’s a quick read about change and how to adapt to it.

🫶How do you give back to the community?

Teaching yoga, donating blood, being an ambassador for the National Academy Foundation (a nonprofit that connects businesses with students to assist under-resourced communities), where I am also an engineering advisory board member for Washington, D.C., Public Schools.

I also offer my services at food shelters and volunteer activities at work, such as co-hosting an event supporting Covenant’s House Youth.

💗 You obviously have a real desire to give back to your community. Where does that originate?

The inspiration is from my grandfather.

🚸Have you passed that on to your children?

Yes. My daughter and I donate our hair for the Cancer Society. I take my children to the Hunger Relief Center, where we have served breakfast and donate cans of food. At school, there are opportunities such as the Angel Tree gifts, or donating gently used shoes or clothes.
