Saturday night, a vigil was held to remember Karen Miles, a Missouri City mother whose life was taken far too soon.
The emotional event took place Saturday night at Emmanuel United Methodist Church Saturday night.
The youngest of five siblings, Miles was remembered lovingly by those closest to her. During the vigil, one of her sisters, Patricia Evans, expressed gratitude over the outpouring of support from the community.
“I knew my sister had love, but I didn’t know she had that much love,” Evans said. “That just warmed my family’s heart.”
The vigil also included a reading of a letter from Miles’ children, who wanted to be part of the tribute even though they weren’t able to attend in-person. The letter was read by David Briggs, the church’s pastor.
“We would like to first thank Pastor Briggs, Sister Cathy, The Emmanuel United Methodist Church, and everyone involved with putting this Prayer Vigil together. We would like to also thank all our friends and family for your prayers and support throughout this process. We wish we could have answered every call, responded to every text, and read every post, but the depths at which our mom’s light reached was unimaginable,” a portion of a statement released by John and Janice Miles read.
28-year-old Davante Clark, who was found in Miles’ vehicle shortly after her disappearance, has been charged with capital murder.
