DEER PARK, Texas – It’s day two since an SUV struck a pipeline valve in Deer Park, causing a large fire that has left homes, cars and properties damaged on Monday.
As Deer Park officials wait for the pipeline fire to burn off, many are wondering what are the next steps after this incident.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will continue to conduct air monitoring until the fire is out and the pipeline is fully depressurized. As of Tuesday morning, there has been no detections of concern.
As for the owner of the vehicle that struck the pipeline, investigators are working to positively identify the driver.
Energy Transfer, the oil and gas company who owns the pipeline, stated that it will help take care of impacted landowners and will provide lodging at area hotels. The company said this will continue until evacuation orders are lifted.
Residents with damaged homes and cars should immediately take pictures of the damages and file a claim with their insurance.
Existing road closures, including the evacuation area, will remain in effect until the area is safe and cleared. An update will be provided when Spencer Highway between Canada and Underwood will reopen.
