Dozens of Haitian New Yorkers rallied on Nostrand Avenue Tuesday calling for the end to what they call anti-immigrant rhetoric.
“There’s been a lot of bad things said about the Haitians and in the school community, a lot of bullying,” Flatbush resident Sarah Dorelus said.

The rally comes after former President Donald Trump made claims that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating the pets of residents. Officials say there is no evidence of that happening.
“I know it’s not true. People use the media and other outlets use another ethnic group as a scapegoat, especially they are Black. We are living in a society where there is a lot of hatred,” Lesly Richardson, who attended the rally, said.
“It was extremely racist and I don’t think that it was necessary to say that,” Dorelus said.
Councilmember Farah Louis represents the Flatbush neighborhood, which is known as “Little Haiti.”
According to Louis, the Haitian community is experiencing bullying.
Residents say this rhetoric is putting immigrant communities in danger.
“When you point out one culture you call out every culture,” Dorelus said.
Demonstrators say these remarks will make a difference when they head to the polls in November.
Meanwhile, Trump will hold a campaign rally in Nassau County on Long Island Wednesday.
