Tom Donlon was officially sworn in as the interim commissioner of the NYPD during a closed press ceremony at One Police Plaza Friday evening.
Fabien Levy, the city’s deputy mayor of communications, announced on social media that Donlon immediately went to work meeting with top NYPD officials.

Donlon succeeds former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, who resigned Thursday. Sources told NY1 last week that federal investigators visited Caban’s house and took his phones.
Donlon is a retired FBI official with a long history in law enforcement. In announcing his appointment Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams emphasized Donlon’s experience, including his time as New York’s director of the Office of Homeland Security and his time running the FBI’s National Threat Center.
