UH fans traveling for Cincinnati football game should check out Oktoberfest!

This Saturday, the Houston Cougars will be kicking off play in the Big 12 Conference with a road trip to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Regardless of how the game turns out, UH fans will have an extra incentive to make the trek to support the Coogs this weekend: Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati began in 1976 and is the second-largest Oktoberfest in the world—trailing only the original event in Munich, Germany.

The festival will be taking place from Sept. 19 through Sept. 22, and admission is free. The festival will be open until 11 p.m. Saturday night, so there will be plenty of time to check it out after the game!

The venue’s location has moved to Sawyer Point Park and Yeatman’s Cove, just along the Ohio River. That gives it more of an authentic Bavarian festival feel, rather than your average street festival. The new spot also gives people ample room to spread out, so make sure to bring your blankets and umbrellas.

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati will feature its traditional events, including wiener dog races and stein-holding competitions. Attendees should also get pumped for the Rich Walburg World’s Largest Chicken Dance on Saturday at 4 p.m., the perfect activity to partake in to celebrate a Coogs’ win (hopefully)!

As far as food and drinks are concerned, the festival has you covered! You can get in the Oktoberfest spirit with authentic German cuisines like brats, pretzels and sauerkraut. It’s a kid-friendly festival, but adult patrons should have no issues finding unique beer offerings.
